HIGHLIGHTS of the
SEPTEMBER 10, 2002
CLASSIS CHATHAM MEETING HELD AT
CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH, WALLACEBURG.
Rev. Richard VanderVaart, pastor of the host church, calls the meeting to order and welcomes everyone present.
Mr. Rick DeGraaf leads the assembly in opening devotions.
Delegates participate in a Stewardship Workshop led by Mr. Rick DeGraaf, director of the Christian Steward Services. Delegates are invited to submit written ideas on how church members can become better stewards and givers, these submission are tabulated and discussed at a later time during the meeting.
The Committee on Credentials
reports 25 churches of Classis present with the
absence of the Wyoming CRC. 12 First-time delegates sign the Form of
Subscription.
3 Deacons are seated by special motion.
Classis is declared constituted and the chair transferred to the chairman of the day, Rev. Ralph Wigboldus with vice chair Rev. David Weemhof.
A request for release from Ministry in the Christian Reformed Church from Rev. Eric Pennings is dealt with under C.O. art 14 section 8-C3.
Recommendation from the Classical Ministries Committee, CMC, to extend the License to Exhort of Mr. Louis Bosma, Martin Bosveld, Tim Luimes and Richard Poortinga for another year is approved.
A proposal to declare the Chaplaincy position at the Chatham-Kent Alliance as Ministerial in Nature is referred back to the C.M.C.
A request from Rev. Norman Jones to be accepted into the CRCNA with the status of a retired minister will be dealt with at the January 2003 meeting of Classis.
A funding proposal for the Sudanese Ministry in London is referred back to the CMC.
A proposal to appoint Pastor, one Deacon and one Elder to the January meetings of Classis is approved.
Rev. Vic VanderMolen(Student Fund Coordinator) and Henry Zomer (Classical Youth Ministry Team) are approved as members of the Classical.
Ministries Committee.Classical Ministries Share request for 2003 and the Financial Summary Jan.1-June 30, 2002 approved by motion.
Guest speaker, Dr. Justin Cooper, conveys the undertakings at Redeemer College.
Classis approves a motion to grant a License to Exhort to Mr. Darrin Berg.
A letter from the Wyoming CRC objecting to Classis’ position to allow women delegates is received for information.
Various reports from Committee and Board Representatives are received with thanks and praise.
