                                                       Highlights

    Of the May 16, 2006 meeting of Classis Chatham

     

    • Rev.  Robert Loerts, Pastor of the Host Church Covenant CRC extends a welcome to the delegates and leads the opening devotions which included some inspiring singing led by Covenant CRC’s Praise Team. Delegates divided into small groups for a time of sharing and prayer.

    • Rev. Jack Westerhof and Frank Engelage (CRMT) facilitated a workshop entitled “Healthy Congregations.” This workshop’s intention was to show how anxious behaviour can be changed into a behaviour that promotes health in a congregation.

    • Chair for the day was Rev. Eric Groot-Nibbelink and Vice-Chair Rev. Pieter Pereboom.

    • Greta Eelkema was appointed to the Finance Committee, Rev. Vic VanderMolen as Regional Pastor East and Cor Nieuwland to the London Campus Ministry Committee.

    • Deacons will be regular delegates starting at the January 2007 meeting of classis.

    • Financial assistance was approved for the following seminary students, Brian Bork, Walter Miedema, Albert Postma, David VanBerkel and Andrew Zomerman.

    • Jack Tacoma and Michael Talsma were today’s speakers and provided details on ECLDN a Leadership Development Network that serves the individual churches in classes.

    • Forest CRC due to a declining membership will hold a final vote on the future of their church on May 28th. Please remember in prayer the needs of these brothers and sisters.

    • The intent of an overture from the Aylmer CRC to oppose a full ecclesiastical fellowship with the Protestant Churches in the Netherlands will be communicated to Synod 2006.

    • Reports were received with thanks and acknowledgments extended for work well done.

    • An Overture from Ingersoll CRC for Classis Chatham to adopt a mission field rather than local churches was defeated and given back to Ingersoll for further consideration.

    • Prayers of thanks and supplication were held throughout the proceedings of the day.  Classis meetings as a rule are uplifting experiences so also this meeting with thanks to the host church for its hospitality and the chair for the day Rev. Groot-Nibbelink.

                                Next meeting of Classis Chatham will be held D.V. September 19, 2006
